We’ve had two weeks to digest the matchup of Superbowl 51, though i’m sure it’s been a bitter pill to swallow for a few of the biggest fan bases in the NFL(Packers,Cowboys,Steelers) but that’s another blog for another time. 

I’m not rooting for either team because I am a Los Angelas Rams fan and both of these teams beat up my favorite team pretty bad. To pick a winner though, I am more intrigued with a Patriots victory due to the whole “Deflate Gate” storyline. Remember, Tom Brady was suspended for the first four weeks of the regular season due to “Deflate Gate”, which makes no sense to me because Brady is not the only quarterback to have footballs tailored to their liking. Plus, the NFL set a regulation inflation size for footballs last season and Brady came within one game of playing in last year’s Superbowl. That’s another blog post as well.

The Patriots are the majority favorite in this game without question but, I am actually writing this blog to shed light on two weapons that may be the x-factors of this game and the kryptonite of the Patriots defense. Those two weapons are Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman.
While Julio Jones and Matt Ryan get the glitz and glamour as the Falcons’ dynamic duo, the one-two punch of Coleman and Freeman do the dirty work. Not only are they productive at their full time job of carrying the ball and punishing defenses on the ground, they are also making a living catching the ball out of the backfield part time. 

On the ground, Freeman is the hard running bulldozer, while Coleman brings the balance of every skill a running back can have. At their full time job, Devonta Freeman has tallied up 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Tevin Coleman has 520 yards and 8 touchdowns. Together that’s about 1,600 yards rushing and 19 total touchdowns. Very productive right? Wait, there’s more. At their part time job, these two have accounted for 85 receptions, 883 yards, and 5 touchdowns total. Just goes to show why the Falcons are ranked top five in total offense(415.8 yds per game), rushing(120.5 yards per game) and passing(295.3 yards per game). 

History isn’t on the Falcons side though. Mat Ryan was named the NFL’s most valuable player but, MVP’s in the big game are 0-7 all time. The Falcons have the number one offense but, number one offenses are 1-4 when going against the number one defense in the Superbowl. With Julio Jones, Matt Ryan,Devonta Freeman, and Tevin Coleman, History may have no say-so in the Falcons destiny.

History is made to be broken. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Cubs showed us that. If the Falcons win the Superbowl, this will undoubtedly won’t be a surprise due to the fact that the underdogs have been highly favored by the sports gods lately
